The mountain real estate of Sandia Park, New Mexico is popular with professionals who commute to Kirtland Air Force Base and Sandia National Laboratory.  Only minutes from Albuquerque homes and subdivisions and less than an hour from Santa Fe, residents of Sandia Park NM homes enjoy all of the best of high desert country.

Sandia Park real estate is located north of Interstate 40 on Highway 14 on the Turquoise Trail, which begins at Tijeras.  Cedar Crest’s archaeological museum is the next fascinating stop on the trail that passed the Sandia Mountains and Cibola National Forest.  Residents of this real estate near Albuquerque may be found out bicycling, hiking, horseback riding, climbing, and skiing through the incredible vistas and various ecosystems.

One gorgeous subdivision in Sandia Park is called Paa-Ko.  Paako features beautiful home sites of at least one acre and surrounds the award-winning Paako Ridge Golf Course in the heart of Sandia National Park.  Another popular area, San Pedro Creek, feature large home sites of at least 10 acres in horse country connects to the trail system. Wild Spanish Mustangs roam the 5,000-acre preserve nearby.

Because of the differences in elevation, a diverse collection of animals, plants, and birds attract recreationists from around the world to the National Scenic Byway and the Cibola National Forest.  Turquoise Trail is accessible from Route 66.  At an elevation of over 10,000 feet, art galleries, shops, and restaurants welcome visitors to extraordinary hiking, biking, and skiing.  The famous Sandia Tram goes to the top of the mountain where diners can be seated window-side overlooking the city lights below.

Several quaint mountain villages add spark to the journey.  Tall ponderosa pine, fir, and aspen trees cover the eastern side of the mountains and the Sandia Peak ski area is located beyond the historical Spanish-American settlement of San Antonito.  San Pedro, an early boom town and Golden, a mission from the late 1830s, the mining town of Madrid, and Cerrillos with its giant cottonwoods dot the journey with their friendly faces.

New Mexico boasts a superior school system and an array of award-winning schools.  The East Mountain region is served by Montoya and San Antonito elementary schools (K-5), Roosevelt Middle School (6-8), and East Mountain and Manzano high schools (9-12).

When you are ready to relax under a Sandia or “watermelon” colored sunset and breathe the fresh mountain air every day, contact Maria Pumilia at (505) 450-5507 for the inside scoop about available properties in the area, along with vacation homes.
