Nob Hill - Albuquerque's Hip and Trendy

By Maria Pumilia

The Nob Hill district in Albuquerque is home to some of the towns best window shopping, restaurants and people watching.   The Nob Hill Commercial District is a not so much a neighborhood, as a corridor along historic Route 66 (Central Avenue) that is bounded on the west by Girard Blvd and University of New Mexico (UNM) and on the east by Washington Street.  The corridor is just a tad wider than Central Avenue / Route 66, with boundaries to the north being Copper Avenue and to the south Silver Avenue.

The Nob Hill residential neighborhoods are bounded by Lomas Boulevard to the north and Garfield Street to the south.

Nob Hill has a distinct character, a holdover from it's halcyon days as a stopover on the great Route 66.   It has a blend of the quintessential Route 66 neon and architecture, designed to cater to the weary motorist,  along with many storefronts designed to appeal to the walking neighborhood shopper.   This combination provides locals today with a truly unique experience replicated nowhere else in the city.
